OFFICIAL: Wijnaldum Joins PSG On Three-Year Deal 



Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool on a three-year contract.
The Ligue 1 giants made the announcement in a statement released on their official website on Thursday.
“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the transfer of Georginio Wijnaldum. Arriving from Liverpool, the Netherlands international midfielder has signed with the club from the French capital until 30 June 2024.
“Born in Rotterdam, and a product of the Sparta Rotterdam youth academy, he played for two of the biggest clubs in his homeland in Feyenoord (135 matches, 25 goals) and then PSV Eindhoven (154 matches, 56 goals) with whom he won the 2014-15 Eredivisie title. 

“After a season at Newcastle United, ‘Gini’ joined Liverpool FC in the summer of 2016. The versatile midfielder won the 2019 UEFA Champions League with the Reds and the English Premier League crown in 2019-2020. 

“He made 237 appearances and scored 22 goals for the Reds, also lifting the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020.
Georginio Wijnaldum has also become, at 30 years of age, a key member of the Dutch national team in recent years where he has earned 75 caps, netting 22 goals and helped the Netherlands finish third at the FIFA World Cup 2014. Before that, Gini had represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 level.”
And speaking on his move to PSG, Wijnaldum said:“Signing for Paris Saint-Germain is a new challenge for me.
“I’m joining one of the best squads in Europe and I want to bring all my desire and commitment to this ambitious project. Paris Saint-Germain have proved how good they are in recent years and I am convinced that together, with our supporters, we can go even further and higher.”

Euro 2020: Ex-Arsenal Keeper Szczesny Makes History As Poland Lose To Slovakia



Slovakia secured a shock 2-1 win over 10-man Poland in their European Championship Group E opener in St Petersburg.
It was a game former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny would be remembered for all the wrong reasons as he is now the first goalkeeper to make an own goal in the European Championship history.
Slovakia took the lead in the 18th minute when the ball bounced off the post and rebounded in off Szczesny after a fine run and shot from Robert Mak.

Poland were back on level terms in the 46th minute thanks to a lovely one-touch move which was calmly finished by Karol Linetty.

But in the 62nd-minute Poland were reduced to 10 men after midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak got his second caution of the game.
Slovakia made the man advantage count as they went 2-1 up on 69 minutes with a Milan Skriniar’s fine low shot on the turn from the edge of the penalty.
Slovakia reached the last 16 of Euro 2016 and this victory leaves them well placed to reach the knockout stage again.
They stay in St Petersburg and face Sweden on Friday, 18 June, before Poland play against Spain in Seville on Saturday.
The other two nations in Group E, Spain and Sweden, face each other in Seville in the late game on Monday.

New AFN Board To Be Inaugurated On Tuesday



The new board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) will be inaugurated on Tuesday at the media center of the Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja.                      
In a statement signed by the Secretary General of the federation, Prince Adisa Beyioku, the inauguration will commence at 10am.           
“The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare will inaugurate the new board of the AFN at 10am on Tuesday June 15, 2021 at the media center at the Moshood Abiola stadium,” said Beyioku.                                    The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr Habu Gumel will also be at the inauguration.                          Tonobock Okowa was elected president of the AFN at an elective congress of the federation on Monday with Tafida Gadzama, a member of the Sydney 2000 Olympics  gold-winning 4x400m relay team was elected the first vice president.          Former African record holder in the triple jump and 1995 African Games champion Rosa Collins was elected the second vice president.                        The new board of the AFN will serve for the next four years (2021-2025).
