Deschamps Signs Contract Extension With France Through 2022

France boss Didier Deschamps has signed a new contract that will keep him in charge of the champions until 2022.
The Les Blues gaffer previous deal was due to expire after Euro 2020, but following a successful spell in charge of the national team, he has been given the security of being able to work through until the end of their World Cup defence in Qatar.
Deschamps , who is in an exclusive club of men to win the World Cup as both a player and a coach, was first appointed to the role following the disappointing showing at Euro 2012 under the guidance of Laurent Blanc.

He has since overseen a record 100 games with France, of which he has picked up an impressive 65 victories, scoring 196 goals in the process. His greatest triumph came in 2018, when he guided Les Bleus to their second World Cup and first since 1998.
Playing with a shrewd tactical approach, which was dovetailed with devastating pace on the counterattack, France were able to dispatch the likes of Argentina and Belgium en route to the final, where they proved much too strong for Croatia in a 4-2 victory.
Two years earlier, Deschamps suffered the disappointment of defeat in the final of Euro 2016, which his nation hosted, going down to a 1-0 loss against a Portugal side that showed the type of pragmatism that he learned from for two years later in Russia.
France have been placed in a pool with defending champions Portugal and Germany, a side desperate to regain face after they were eliminated in the group stages in Russia for Euro 2020.
Deschamps is hoping to make France just the second team to follow up World Cup success with a victory at the Euros. Les Bleus did it in 2000, while Spain did likewise in 2012.

Aribo: Gerrard’s Trust Has Helped Me Settle Down Well At Rangers

Joe Aribo reckons he’s had
to break rules to break through at Scottish Premiership club Glasgow Rangers.
The Ibrox star has developed into a key man for manager Steven Gerrard having settled fully into his role through the opening six months of his life in Scotland.
Aribo freely admits he needed time to adjust after his transfer last summer from Charlton.

Like every new player who arrives at the Old Firm the instant demands for performance can be excruciating.
It was an eye-opener for Aribo but the 23-year-old has used the responsibility bestowed upon him by gaffer Gerrard to have a real influence on the side. It’s about freedom, the opportunity to be daring.
Aribo admits lack any of form or belief can lead to a player thinking more about trying to fit more into a team’s overall structure than the important aspect of expressing themselves.
Gerrard isn’t
interested in that. He signed Aribo to do his thing within the team’s framework and the attacker is responding to the injections of belief being administered by his boss.
He said: “It gives me that confidence if I break the rules. I can play my natural game. It’s sometimes hard when you are in a fixed structure so you need someone to go and do the things no one is expecting you to do.
“That just gives me confidence to say I need to stand up and do what I have to do to put in the right ball or score goals for the team.
“It was intense at the start and it took time obviously settling into a new club and the stature of the club and how big it is.
“So it did take some time to get used to it but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.
‘And I’ve been happy I’ve been able to stay in the squad and keep putting in performances.”
Having permission to be
expressive on the park Aribo is able to display his best traits.
In the victory over Celtic at
Parkhead in the final match prior to the mid-season break one outrageous piece of skill summed up his abilities.
Aribo’s instant kill of a 70-yard ball from Connor Goldson that dropped so high from the sky it came down with snow on it was a perfect
illustration of the talents that he possesses.
It didn’t bring a goal or an assist but it didn’t go unnoticed.
His mates were all over it and he said: “A few of my friends sent it to me and I just laughed at it.
“It’s just practice. Even in training I try to kick the ball as high as possible and bring it down. I used to do it a lot as a kid all the time.”

Ndidi Backed For Surprise Return In Huge Leicester City Injury Boost

Wilfred Ndidi could make a surprise return to Leicester City’s line-up for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Aston Villa.
Ndidi underwent knee surgery on January 9 after damaging his meniscus in training, and City manager Brendan Rodgers suggested the defensive midfielder would be on the sidelines for four to six weeks.
But, the 23-year-old was back on the training pitch last week as City prepared to face Burnley, and Rodgers said after the 2-1 defeat to the Clarets that he is hopeful Ndidi will return in time for the huge clash at Villa Park.

“He’s back out on the pitches now which is great news for us,” Rodgers said. “The importance of him is huge for this team.Read Also: Ezenwa: Enyeama Is My Role Model
He’s recovering very well. He’s worked with medics. He’s been out on the field the last few days so we’ll see how he is.
“I think it will be too soon for him to be back for Wednesday’s game [at home to West Ham] but certainly by the weekend [at Brentford in the FA Cup] and I would say for Aston Villa, hopefully, he’ll be available.”
”In Ndidi’s absence City have gone three games without victory, drawing 1-1 at home to Villa in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final before the back-to-back Premier League losses to Southampton and Burnley.
”In the league, City average just 0.91 points per game in the matches Ndidi has not started. With the Nigerian in their line-up, that figure is 1.48 points per game.
